(In the computer room at school.)
me: "Please go to google.com."
student: ::goes to yahoo.com and starts to search for google::
me: "What are you doing? ::clicks on URL bar:: Just type 'google.com'."
student: "What?! You can DO that??!!!"
me: ::facepalm::
This has also happened with coworkers.

Where has the time gone???
I was doing so well at the beginning of the year keeping up with my blog posts. And then... everything happened.
I've been in the process of applying for grad school, which meant taking the GRE and taking an online class and working on a personal statement essay for the application. Any time I had left was spent on National AJET or lesson planning and maybe trying to have fun occasionally.
As for all of those things:
The GRE has been taken. I took it last weekend, and I was able to get my multiple choice results right away, but I have to wait on my essay score. I'm not too excited to see my essay score, because I'm pretty sure I bombed it. It's been awhile since I've had to think in coherent English that goes beyond, "Hello! My name is Rika! My hobbies are cat!" My multiple choice score was promising, though. I got a 163 on the math section and a 162 on the verbal section. They're only a couple points off my goal score of 165, so I'm choosing to be happy with them.
The essay is... progressing. As it has been for the last several months. I don't think I've ever worked this hard to write something. Again with the no coherent English thinking for several years and then BAM high-level college writing... GO! My application deadline is the beginning of next month though, so I'm hoping to have everything done this week.
National AJET has been going great! We had our changeover in May, which was exhausting, but a lot of fun. We had four days of meetings, but there was time to run around Tokyo and have some fun. The next time I see everyone in person will be for Tokyo Orientation in August. We'll be there for the full two weeks, and I think it's going to be more of the same exhaustiveness and much more of the same having fun together-ness. My main job now is organizing the National AJET workshops for incoming JETs. I like how important that sounds.
This week, my students are preparing for Tomokosai- the school festival. My ESS students sent out a survey online about stereotypes and foreigners' images of Japan. They're putting the results into a really cute-looking presentation. Unfortunately, most of them are a bit computer-illiterate, so I've been doing a lot of work, but it's coming together nicely. I'll be glad when it's done.
I don't really have much time, as I have to continue chipping away at my ever-growing to-do list, but I do want to post this article that I saw recently.
